2013 is right around the corner! It’s the perfect time to look back at what I’ve done over the year, learn from my experiences, and make the necessary changes to prepare myself for the next.
From the 32+ articles I’ve written this year on my blog, one has stood out the most to me: Avoiding Information Overload: Learning From My Mistakes
Not only was it one of my most talked about posts, but it made a real impact on the way I look at my own content.
There’s a lot that I’d love to wipe clean and start anew – so that’s exactly what I’ve got planned for the new year!
Growing from my experiences
I feel that I’ve grown a lot as a freelance graphic designer over the year, and it excites me to plan a fresh redesign for myself.
I'm going into this with a whole new mindset. When I built my blog early this year, I had no idea how it was going to turn out—I've never ran a blog "professionally" before.
I designed my new website/blog and established a blogging schedule (new post every Monday).
At the time this was a huge step for me, and honestly it's helped grow myself and my career.
Applying what I've learned from blogging
It's important to create content on a regular basis, but being a one man team, a post every Monday is a bit too much.
It's not that I can't handle creating the content, the issue is that not every post is as unique and original as I'd like them to be. I can't lie, some are filler, and those are the posts I'm not proud to publish.
This is just one of many changes I have planned for the new year, and with my blog I hope to write less, with better content.
I've found the posts that are honestly written from my own experiences are the ones that are more enjoyable. If my posts are all from my own experience, then they're all going to be unique.
Here's what I plan to do about my blogging schedule: Work on writing from my own experiences, and only create content that I'm proud to publish. I want to try and put out one or two posts a month; work on more honestly written posts based on my own experiences, as well as interesting tutorials in both video and written format.
Looking ahead to 2013
As of right now, this will be the last blog post until my relaunch in 2013!
I want to put all of my focus towards reworking a well organized and easy to read website with meaningful content on every page.
Like most designers, we redesign our personal brand just about every year – so of course with a redesigned website, there will be a redesigned personal brand.
It's still going to me, Brent Galloway – Freelance Graphic Designer, but with a fresh look throughout my online presence.
You can take a sneak peek at what I've been working on over at my Dribbble profile: http://dribbble.com/brentgalloway
I also have some ideas in the works for passive income. As long as I stick with it and stay motivated, you can expect a shop page soon after the relaunch!
Here's to 2013!
My goal for the New Years is to make my new online presence clean and easy to read. So if you've read this far, I hope you're interested in what I'm working on, and please feel free to say hi on Twitter @BrentGalloway.
