A look into my new website design

December 2, 2013

In October I posted about how I was going to refocus my entire website and make it more effective for my freelance career – and that's exactly what I did! Over the past couple of months I've been planning this all new refreshed design.

How does it look?

I now feel like I have a clean foundation for what's to come.In this post I'd like to go a bit into detail on what's new and my thoughts behind my decisions.

Why did I need to redesign?

I've received many compliments on my previous design and blog, but over time I realized that the focus was all wrong.

While I was very happy with the content and most of the design elements (like my logo), it's heavy focus on the blog was not doing my freelance business justice.

I need a site that's more effective for me as a freelance graphic designer – that means more call-to-actions to view my work, contact me, etc. Essentially I need to attract and convert more clients than other freelancers.

My blog will still be here, and I'll still be posting on occasion about projects, design tips, and client related resources.

It's just the overall focus and new content to come that has taken a new direction for the better, and so has my writing about starting a freelance career. If you haven't heard, I'm building a new go-to site for freelancers called, Your Freelance Career.

Check it out if you've yet to do so. I'm really excited and hope that it can become an advocate for the freelance community.

What's new?

The biggest change is that I've simplified the overall look and designed an all new homepage!

Instead of being presented with a blog, you're greeted with a simple introduction and a couple of call-to-actions.

Maybe I'll do a follow-up post on how effective these changes are.

Aside from the overall tweaks and minor renovations to my single work posts and contact page, I've decided to sell all of my products directly on my website!

My shop is no longer an external link directing you to my Big Cartel page. I'm now using Gumroad for both my physical and digital products. The downside is this is that I no longer have a cart system... However, the flexibility of what I can sell and the amazing usability customers get with using Gumroad make up for the faults.

I'm very pleased with the outcome of this new design.

What do you think?

Go ahead and explore, then let me know your thoughts in the comments below! As with any new launch, I'll most likely be making tweaks here and there, but if you happen to find any strange design flaws or bugs, please let me know.

Thanks for taking the time to read. I'm really excited for what's to come! :)
