As a freelance designer, I have read hundreds, possibly thousands of articles online. It's a way I've connected and learned from others like myself. There are countless numbers of personal and business blogs on the internet. It's become a modern way of communication, networking and self-learning. Anyone is allowed to blog and many do. So I'd like to explain why I think freelancers or entrepreneurs should blog.
1. Display a position of expertise
Blogging is a great way to share your experience and knowledge with others. Sharing your knowledge becomes a resource to those who wish to pursuit your area of expertise, and can also prove to potential clients that you are a professional in what you do.
2. Connect with like-minded people
One of the most important and interesting aspects of an online blog is the interaction between others. You never know exactly who is visiting your blog. Some of those readers could be potential clients, and since they've already established a connection with you by visiting your blog, you could have a good chance that they may turn to you to hire.
3. Blog to learn
One of the many reasons why I'm starting to blog is to learn. There are so many different things to learn from the experience of blogging. I've conducted surveys for research, learned how to structure my thoughts into posts, and overall my writing skills are only going to improve.
4. Generate traffic
As you might have noticed (or not), my blog is also home to my freelance portfolio. The reason why, is because a blog generates a lot of traffic! Search engines love blogs. Most likely, majority of new viewers arrive to your blog due to a simple search of information they are in need of. With the help of quality content and SEO alone, your blog can generate a lot of traffic, and you're getting exposure and recognition to your work.
5. Make Money
Don't read that and think this is a get-rich-quick scheme, because it's not! But, it's got potential to generate some revenue. There are many different ways to bring in money by blogging, but it takes a lot of commitment and time. I do plan on going over how to make money online and different ways to generate passive income, so keep your eyes open for those posts!
Why I Blog
I wanted to blog for the reasons above, but ultimately I do it to have fun and be creative. I enjoy helping people, and hopefully the content I create will help others get through some of the same situations I've experienced. I wanted to have a place where I can discuss on a personal level about the topics of being a freelance designer and running your own business. So I hope you stick around for the ride!
